I smoked my first "My Father" lancero last night at a local bar (it is so great to still be able to enjoy a cigar at a bar like this). Paired it up with a couple of bottles of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale.

The construction was only "ok." The draw was fine - something I always worry about with a lancero. The burn was even. But the wrapper kept peeling off. Disappointing. Don't know if that was the manufacturer's fault . . . or the vendor (more on them, later).

To me, the cigar was medium body, mediuam flavor, and mild in strength. It generated a very nice volume of smoke

The flavor profile was very nice. I am really not good at describing flavors, but there were several flavor changes and all the flavors were pleasant. No grassy or metallic tastes.

So in short, it was an enjoyable - but not incredible - smoke.

Overall I rate it a 75-85 - which is pretty good (a "B") in my system.

I paid about $11 for this cigar at Old Virginia Tobacco Company (OVTC) - which is way too much. IMO, $8 would be a reasonable price for this cigar. At $6, it would be a good value.

And speaking of OVTC . . . I had not been in any of their stores in at least 7 years. The only reason I was there last night was because that was where this guy I was meeting wanted to meet. But it was good to see that nothing has changed at OVTC . . . meaning I missed nothing by avoiding them. Their sales people are just as rude, unpleasant, and unknowledgable as I remember. What a TRULY crappy store. I cannot wish enough ill upon them.

Nice review PrizeTek.

The wrapper issue it's a manufacturers issue,by not putting enough glue all throughout the edge of the leaf on the roll, this tend to happen on darker.thicker wrappers, when the glue is properly applied it should not matter how low you clip the cigar, the wrapper should stay in place.

I liked the few that I smoked, but I agree that they are too pricey for what they are.

I really enjoyed the robustos I had, but only bought them on a screaming deal. I would like to try the lancero along with the Anos 100 lancero. Have to keep my eyes peeled.

It amazes me, well not really I guess, at how many of the B&M just don't get it. I support the locals as much as I can. However, when the locals want to charge a premium price for a not so premium cigar and an arm and a leg for a premium cigar, you lose a lot of my business.

And even more than that . . .

I got to the store before the guy I was meeting there and was looking for a cigar to buy.

It was maybe 15 minutes before closing and already the salesman is giving me the look. Then in a couple of minutes he comes in and asks if he can help. No thanks, I tell him, I am just looking to see what catches my eye while I am waiting for someone to meet me here - we are going to pick up a couple of cigars and go down the steet to smoke them at a local bar. So he asks me who I am waiting for, and I tell him the guy's name.

The salesman then rolls his eyes and repeats the guy's name with a very derogatory tone.

Now when the dude shows up he buys $150 worth of overpriced singles from this store. He is clearly a good customer of this POS store.

Really . . . WTF is with the attitude?

OVTC is the same POS chain that used to (prolly still do) hold back most or all of their Opus to sell them at superinflated prices at special "Redskins parties" they would arrange. I loathe them and will do a little jig when they hopefully some day go completely out of business. Hell, I have enough cigars to last me more than ten years, so it is almost enough for me to support a new 1000% state cigar tax just to drive these assholes out of business.

I guess that is not nice of me.

Had one of these back on the 4th of July. I thought it was pretty good, but not a good value as well. AF Cuban Beli and Oliva Series V are sill my top value choices.

Nice job on the review man. I smoked one last week at a local event with Manny but it wasn't a lancero. Great cigar. Great guy though.

When our friend has 30% off if you buy 3 boxes it makes it difficult to buy the m/f. I realy like this cigar to. :

.Pepin makes a good product. OVTC sucks, I'd rather go to Signature Cigar.

I smoked one of these this evening due to this thread.... Supremely unimpressed. I smoke a ton of his stuff and this was by far the most disappointing. Don't get me wrong, it was not an awful cigar... just expected a bit more from it.

I received a fiver of these a little over a year ago. I smoked one a couple of weeks after receiving it and had a similar experience as the OP. I put them to rest and tried another one a couple of weeks ago and the year resting did them wonders. I got delicious flavors that weren't there with my first stick I sampled. It's a different cigar than the blue lancero but I would rank it right up there with it after resting for a year.

These gems are a regular in my rotation of: Holy Lance (Illusione), La Riqueza lonsdale and the My Father lancero. I like each for a different reason. I never pay more than $7.00 for the MF. (I regularly purchase 5-packs on cigarbid with a winning bid of 30-35 smackers.) I absolutely love this stick and think it will only get better with age.
