A friend came by for dinner, and afterwards, offered a cigar.
I told him I've had maybe a half dozen cigars over my lifetime (mid-forties) and I didn't really enjoy any of them, even though one or two of them were "premium". I also told him, I LOATHE CIGARETTES!!! I hate everything about them, except for those that are totally natural and un-treated tobacco, which I might puff on like a cigar, once in a blue moon.
Then he explained about The Cut, The Lighting, and The Draw. And, to clear the old smoke out of the body of the 'gar after a good puff.
Ah ha! It turned out to be a "not terrible" experience, but of course, I needed to experience MORE.
After weeks of googling, I finally decided on a "beginner" humidor, calibrated its hygrometer, seasoned it properly, and stocked it with a few fine stogies.
On the advice of my local tobacconist, I started a Cigar Log Book. I tape in the cigar label, and write about my experiences about each. Just for fun.
So far, I have tried a few from Perdomo. Each has been better than any cigar I can remember from my past, BUT, they all are basically, well, tobacco. Yes very good and smooth tobacco, but...
Then I tried "Tatiana Mocha". Wow, what a delicious and delightful smoke! So smooth and flavorful, and very little of that "tang" that tends to hit the middle of my tongue with "regular" tobaccos. That cigar, although "flavored", is still hand-made with good quality tobaccos, and only "lightly" flavored.
Another thing is, I can only find time to enjoy a cigar about twice a week, so I really don't want to waste my time with "cheap" cigars. Everybody loves a bargain, of course, but I really want to explore some solid quality.
I guess I am looking for a traditional, non-flavored, finely made cigar that will not give me that nasty "tobacco tang on my tongue". It doesn't necessarily have to be "Mild", as I have tried a couple "full bodied" smokes that were quite nice. I'll consider anything up into the maybe $20 range. And, I prefer larger ring sizes but shorter lengths. "Robusto" is my favorite so far.
So that's where I'm at!
I would like suggestions on what to try next! Hoping for some nice 'Gar chat with y'all!
