If you're not sure how to do something, try the Help system for an answer.

I realize that many of you folks are new not only to the site, but also to this web board software. It's actually very cool, and has a number of excellent features. Some things you might want to do:

  • Edit your profile -- If you click on your name on the top right corner of the screen, you'll get a drop-down menu. Choose "My Profile" and then click on the "Edit my Profile" button. You can then upload an avatar, a picture, as well as set your birthday, location, and other settings. If you enter your birthday, it automatically appears on the calendar.
  • Edit your settings -- If you click on your name on the top right corner of the screen, you'll get a drop-down menu. Choose "My Settings" and you can configure a number of cool settings. My favorite is if you're using a modern web browser, turn on the "Enable visual (RTE) editor?" setting for a nice word processor-like editor when posting. No more BBCode!
  • Image Gallery -- Each one of you has the ability to create as many image galleries as you want. Just click on the "Gallery" link above, then click on "Members Gallery" and you can create a new photo album by clicking on "New Album". Upload pictures of cigars you've smoked, your scotch collection, whatever. Here's a tutorial.
  • View New Content -- One of the best ways to catch up on new postings on this board is to click on the "View New Content" link in the upper-right corner of the screen. This will let you see all of the new posts that you have not read in one place, rather than having to go through the forums individually.
  • View Newest Post -- If you see this icon next to a post's title: Posted Image it means that there are new posts in that thread for you to read. If you click on this icon, it will take you to the last unread post in the thread.
  • Jump to Last Post -- If you click on the link to the right of the post title that looks like: Posted Image Today, 01:22 PM (under the Last Post Info column), You will go to the last post in that thread.
  • Ignoring Annoying Members -- If someone annoys you with their posts, follow this guide to put them on ignore -- problem solved!
  • Browsing from Work -- If you're browsing from work, you can turn off the display of images & avatars to play it safe so no NSFW material is displayed.
  • Calendar -- This site has a shared calendar. You can use to to enter events like HERFs, when you'll be in a particular city, etc. Just click on the "Calendar" link above, and click on "Add Single Event" / "Add Recurring Events" / "Add Ranged Event" as you please.
  • Reputation -- You can click on the little +/- icons in the bottom right corner of a post to give people a good or a bad reputation (and a comment), as you please.
  • PM System -- The Private Messages system here is really cool... things are saved as "conversations" so they appear sort of like private threads between you and whomever you're conversing, and you see the entire context of the discussion. I think they are very well done.
  • Integrate with Facebook -- The IP.Board forums can integrate with your Facebook account so that you can sync status, "about me", avatars, and other information between GarTrader <-> Facebook.
  • Forum Views -- If you click on your name on the top right corner of the screen, you'll get a drop-down menu. Choose "My Settings" and then click on the "Forums" tab. There are a number of things you can change here, down near the bottom you can set the "Topic Display Mode" to Standard (as it is now), Outline (displays things in an outline view), and "Linear Plus" (which is more like the old CF forums). Enjoy.
There are many other things available to us as well, including a blogging system, a downloads manager, and more... poke around, have fun... here are a few tips:

Try the Private Messenger (PM) system out guys... it's actually really cool the way it works in terms of them being private conversations, with the entire back and forth shown in context like a thread.

The calendar needs to be scrolling in the top right corner. And make sure no one reads it or pays attention to it, and that it makes each page load slower. You know, kind of like CF's. That would be so neXt level.

Nice site Andrew...I hope it works out better than the dungeon did. It seemed like once the members there got their share of being able to do or say whatever they wanted without ramifications they grew bored with it.
Sometimes people need someone to shock, pick on and ostracize and then be called on the carpet for it. Well I guess you guys can always invite jk and Happy.
What else is on your mind besides 100 proof women, 90 proof whiskey and 14K gold?

That's definitely a danger here too, Lance... it could very well end up being that no one uses it. But I made it available, and will continue to work on it... what happens to it is up to people who participate here. They will make or break it in terms of there being enough new interesting posts to keep people interested.

Can I ask for Feedback here?

Good. Posted Image

Don't know if this is possible here, but on some BBs when you roll your curser over a thread title it pops up a little box that shows the beginning text of the thread, which gives you more of a taste of the topic without having to actually open it. Here at GT it currently shows this type of info - "View topic, started today, 9:30AM". Can it be changed or is there a preference to have it this way? Just curious.
