No wonder they keep screaming for more freebies and electing folks who will give it to them. They don't pay jack shit toward any of it.

Almost Half of U.S. households pay no Federal tax

Quote

About 47 percent will pay no federal income taxes at all for 2009. Either their incomes were too low, or they qualified for enough credits, deductions and exemptions to eliminate their liability. That's according to projections by the Tax Policy Center, a Washington research organization.

Quote

"We have 50 percent of people who are getting something for nothing," said Curtis Dubay, senior tax policy analyst at the Heritage Foundation.

Instead of the new talk about a VAT these folks should be kicking in at least 5% of their monies first......

Makes me a little bitter after completing my taxes yesterday.

I have been employed part-time or full-time since I was 15, working throughout college and graduate schools. I went to undergraduate and graduate schools for 16 straight years - working full-time for 12 of those years while attending school - so I could earn a decent income. As a result, I am doing OK, but I am certainly not a wealthy man - I drive a 14 year old Nissan and I live in a middle class neighborhood in a 2300 square foot house.

Yet my federal income taxes alone (not counting state income taxes, or FICA, or anything else) could easily support a family of four.

And now I hear that 47% of households are paying ZERO?!?

How can this be?

There is something seriously wrong.

It's easy - those 47% of households paying ZERO (and a few other folks) are the ones who continue to elect the representatives who will continue to give them crap "for free" (at the expense of the rest of us, of course). The elected officials continue to pander to that large group of folks because it means they will continue to get elected to their cushy D.C. jobs, and the circle (jerk) continues. These days, we keep sliding closer and closer to socialism as these officials continue to feel they are doing the "right" thing by giving more and more to folks who refuse to do anything for themselves. Are there people who legitimately make an effort, try to do the right thing, and simply need (and by some account actually deserve) some assistance? Absolutely... But there are WAY more who sit on their butts and do nothing simply BECAUSE the government will pay them more to do that than to actually do anything else, and that's a travesty.

As Margaret Thatcher declared back in 1976 - "Socialist governments traditionally do make a financial mess. They always run out of other people's money. It's quite a characteristic of them. Then they start to nationalize everything...".

Gee, sound like any country of which we might currently be citizens?!?

the flaw of democracy is that if the people figure out how to elect officials that get them free stuff they will continue to do so.

This is hardly a problem of one single party... clicky

Americans—or 41 percent of the U.S. population—will be completely outside the federal income tax system in 2006.1 This total includes those who pay no tax, and those who pay some tax upfront and are later refunded the full amount of the tax paid or more.

Considering 41% paid nothing for 2005 when times were a hell of a lot better, 47% paying no fed. taxes during the economic times we have now seems minute in comparison. Just my .02

Sure, both parties are somewhat complicit.

But 66% of single mothers pay no income tax. This group comprises 30% of all non-payers. Shocker! And something tells me that this group is also a HUGE consumer of public expensitures in the form of AFDC, WIC, Welfare, Section 8 housing, S-CHIP, Medicaid, . . . .

So in other words we have a huge group of children who live in households without a father raised by "heads-of-households" who are unproductive leeches on the rest of society.

This is a DIRECT CONSEQUENCE of the destruction of the traditional nuclear family, which has been a major agenda item for many Democratic politicians for at least 30 years.
